Asset of Community Value
In July 2015, the Plough was listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) by Sheffield City Council following a nomination signed by over 140 local residents. As an ACV, the pub has some protection under local planning laws – any proposed change of use is subject to planning permission. The first test of this came in the summer of 2016 when Sainsbury’s applied for permission to convert the pub into a convenience store. Following a long and well-supported community campaign, the local planning authority unanimously rejected Sainsbury’s application.
The Plough has now been placed on the market by its owners, Enterprise Inns. At the end of March 2017, a six month moratorium will start during which time the community has the option to put together a financial package to bid for the pub. Steps are now underway to explore different funding options including that of a Community Share Issue.
